Desktop users have grumbled about the "live tile" interface to Windows 8, but that's because it was designed for touch screens that most desktop and laptop users don't yet own. The live tile interface is admittedly, less than perfect for use with a mouse, which is why most desktop users want to go straight past the live tile start screen to the traditional Windows desktop. But when you use Windows 8 and the apps designed for it on a tablet, you see, immediately, how it's supposed to work. The gestures are a lot more intuitive and easy to remember on a touch screen.
The Nokia Lumia 2520, which I got to try out for a week recently thanks to AT&T, is such a device. It runs full Windows 8, which means it's basically a PC in tablet form. You can play with it like a tablet, but you can also click through to a genuine Windows desktop and run real Microsoft Office, or just about any of your favorite Windows apps that can be downloaded onto the machine.
