If you have an Apple mobile device and you’re one of the close to 20 per cent who’ve not yet installed Apple’s new mobile operating system, the release of iOS 7.1, the first major update since iOS 7 launched last fall, may be enough to convince you to make the change.
I’ve been hedging my bets on the upgrade issue. I updated my iPhone to iOS 7 but not my iPad so I could compare and contrast Apple’s earlier iOS with the latest one.
Some of the changes aren’t immediately obvious, like support for Apple’s new CarPlay. You’ll have to wait for that – Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo will have CarPlay availability sometime this year; Ford, General Motors, Honda, Nissan, Toyota and others after that.
And some changes will only be noticeable to iPhone 4 users who ran into problems with iOS 7. The latest update promises to solve those problems. I don’t have an iPhone 4 so you’ll have to let me know how it works if you update your 4.
